Boxed up another bike today

So boxed up the last bike today, the cycle truck will jut have to be taken apart and put on top of the pile. Two weeks an I move my stuff into storage, and I was thinking, if someone did steal my boxes of bikes, they'd have a tough time of putting anything together to sell, since I'm the one who took the stuff apart, and knows which box it's in, and how to put it together...muahahaha.... Saw my last two Zootunes concerts, CAKE, and Rick Springfield opening for Pat Benetar w/hubby Neil.    I might have 23 work days left, but I might not be able to talk the supervisor into letting me take the 25 & 26th off sick, but I'll wait until we get a little closer, really, is it going to matter if the guy who's position who isn't getting replaced leaves a little earlier, I don't think so. Selling some lights tonight, and while I'm doing that I'll take apart the powerrack, one of those pieces of workout equipment that's cheaper to keep.  then I t

40 days until I'm out of a job

Well, the term for that is 'retired', but technically since I'm not old enough, I will be transient... Tomorrow I work some of the last full time days of this job I have had, showing up at the same place for 21 years, just a different floor as of the last 8 years. Got some good information from a TED talk, Bob on a Tallbike, I'll have to think of this as a performance art piece I guess, then be more personable, also, get a dry erase board, and a donation cup. Going to try to contact as many people on the Warmshowers.org site, seems a bit more people friendly and useful, than other sites that are at face value, quite a few hotel ads. It's 46 days until I'm free of this place I have called an address for nearly 40 years, I call it an address since I never really 'chose' to live here, so it really doesn't feel like 'a home'.  I hope to find a home, or at least a furbaby(a dog) that will share some time on this rock with me. Okay, I thin

Figure I won't be able to take Cookie with me, so I'll just post a pic to remind me... And there are 42 days left....hope I can sell this.

44 days and new bike parts coming together

Whoo hoo, got rid of the big wardrobe I had, I paid $300 for it at the 2nd hand place down the street, they went out of business a while ago, but to get someone to show up and pay(true only $80) for it, when it's a piece that just doesn't fit with how people live.  It's too big for the people who live in an apartment, and for those who have enough room for it, well they have a room called a closet. Oh an she bought a mirror I snagged for free, so I'm leaving town with $85. Got a present in the mail, a 11-41T chainring cassette for the rear, with a large 41T cog I will be able to make any hill my bizatch(the usual largest chainring on a cassette is 34T. New cranks came too with 24T/34T/42T that's right, the front big cog will be 1T bigger than what's on the back, new grips skewer combos, and to go along with the new drivetrain, some new old shifters. I wanted simple shifters, if the gear I am in works, I don't need to know which number it is, as for the f

As I await parts, I made cat scratchers

Image
Well as I await the open road, parts to finish the drivetrain, and wait for people to show up to buy stuff, a friend wondered if I could do some woodworking before I left, I haz skillz. Had to borrow the cat scratcher to size it right, but I had these two drawers that would have ended up in the trash anyway, I snagged them a while ago since they had glass knobs on them(sold the knobs at a yardsale a while back). Cut the drawers down to the right thickness for the cardboard insert, cut the end off to make it shorter, then the top piece to keep the cardboard from coming out as the cat gets it's scratch on... I think they would look good wasabi green(I have leftover paint to get rid of). But I'll deliver them after some sanding of the sharp edges. Client smartly asked me to make two, paid for one upfront, and if they likey I'll get another $10 for the second one.  Not too bad for free drawers I snagged just because of what was attached and would have left them for the

More today...

Didn't sell the records, but I did start selling the workout stuff I'm not taking with me.   Also the first part arrived to rebuild the drivetrain on the touring bike. It was a tricky fit, but I got it to fit, it's not like I deal with derailers on a regular basis(just not my jam).  I think this might be able to handle that 40T cog on the ebay cassette, I ordered another one from amazon just in case, and I'll bring the extra with me. So I'm feeling good, one more part done, one more thing closer to being out of here. I'd like to say thanks to all who are reading, Merci, Danke to the international folks who tuned in, I hope to bring you something more entertaining in 53 days....or so.

53 days an I can't wait to get out of here

The heat wasn't too bad last night, turned on the ionizer fan, slept pretty well, still selling stuff on the FB groups, but some people are being flakey.  But sell sell sell I do. The first parts of the drive train rebuild start showing up tonight, so when is the worst time to start rebuilding the drive to the bike you are going to ride across country? Oh yeah, when you have 60 days left before you leave, duh, some of the shipping arrival times are going to cut it close, as I plan to move my stuff into storage at the end of the month. So I have the derailer tonight, shifters over the weekend, and a new sprocket cassette next week. I already changed the chain, so new cranks, and chainrings to make things go smoothly, I didn't like the shifters on the bars anyway, so I'm switching to a top tube mounted shifters. So let that be a lesson to you, with 60 days left before you have to be out of the house, don't start rebuilding the bike... lolz. It should work out fine.
