Paul on a bike, except when I'm working on the new house...

One of the things I hate about doing electrical work is that my fingers start to cramp up when I'm in some odd spot on a ladder or some such and I just need to twist the wire...grrr. But got it done, lights, done, recirculating fan, done.  True I still need to install the filter for the suck side, but I have what I need to do that. You can see all three lights on the great room side in this pic.  The picture just doesn't show how bright the bathroom is with those two lights.  Lights out, and I also finished that outlet that will be back there by the sink, even used it today to trim the scalp.  Here's the light with a shorter bulb on the bottom, thankfully I found a better replacement at HD. Yup, that's air forcing those open, and it's not too noisy either.

When I bought the house it came with a couple of nails above the doorway of the screen door, and on those two nails was an ax handle that had some grooves put into the handle to make it more handy. I installed trim around the screen door for a more finished look, but what to do with the baseball bat?....  As you can see I had to wait until dark to take pics as the flash wouldn't work with all the light coming in through the window.  These are the original hinges from the old front door, this allows access to behind that piece of trim. I don't just have an ax handle, I've got hardwood to deal with, well whoever the ax handle was for. And if necessary, I can bump it up a notch an go for a Danny Trejo impersonation...only I'm taller.

The front door finally got here, it's not perfect, but it was $25 less than the next cheapest door. Besides, since it isn't perfect it will fit in with the rest of the house. The window is a little off, I assume I could pull the screws and straighten it, but then I'd have to re-seal it, blah blah, it's good the way it is. Unique.  This is friday night, and you have no idea how many times I had to take it out an put it back in there to get it right.  This is the baseboard molding I installed on the porch, all the way around.  True you usually don't install baseboard where the wall isn't finished, but I'm going to install lids between each 2x6 to make little cubbies, and that will give me something to do with the short boards I have.  Also with baseboard all around it covers up the edge of the flooring.  The baseboard is made from the old doorways, which were doorways made for a doorway that wasn't meant to have a door.  Another use of th...

As my Grandma Peaches used to say...she also pointed out that I am Precious, as her first grandchild you damn right I am. So anyway, after the Seachickens lost to them Cowboys, I finished the wainscoting in the bathroom this weekend, yippie. Fingers crossed that the door shows up tomorrow.  This is looking down at the entryway on the porch.  Looking down the porch almost finished.  Yippie, scrounged enough of the old flooring to finish replacing what was all there.  This is saturday, that back corner took all morning since the walls both lean in, and I was able to use the one piece cut at an angle to get that corner tight.  And this is as far as I got sunday, and then I had to cut more old flooring to make the wainscoting.  And this morning here's behind where the waterheater will go. This is the finished wall, yea! Now all it needs is a good sanding and paint, or in this case deck stain.

Hey wow, that porch is lookin' mighty fine, today I took it easy and cut the new flooring(re-purposed from the old front room), and over this week I should start screwing it down. I think it looks amazing. Here's the progress over the weekend.  New pressure treated floor joists...  New bottom plate for that wall where the second door used to be.  Re-used the studs, and space them on top of the new joists.  Stringers, made from the old joists.  Oooh, lookie, they are plum and should make it easy to install the insulation.  New subfloor.  This is what was left of the stud in the old doorway, and yes it appears they used a hand chisel to cut away about half of the stud so they could put a 32" door where a 30" door was.  Very bad idea, next time peeps, move the stud.  Re-purposed the plywood from the old hallway that was used to level-ish, to install carpet.  Old studs out of the way. Demo on the porch, is done, and copper coating the new beam a thick re-purpose of one of the former joists that had some bug damage just like the bathroom. So the flooring in out and this morning I snagged four new pressure treated joists.   This is where I was friday night.    Saturday night, urg, so tiring pulling up old flooring.  Sunday...there's the new beam for the outside to drive joist hangers into.  Ready for new stuff.... This is one of the cut offs of the chunk of wood I'm using to hold the joists on the outside.  Look at those growth rings....

It's kind of hard to tell if the insulation is doing it's supposed to do when the weather warms back up, it was frosty mon/tues, and just moist grass this morning, so is the insulation doing it's job, I dunno. I fixed the symmetrical problem with the trim, and insulated yesterday, so today was a moving stuff around and clean off the porch so I can get to demo in there and replace the front door. Grrr, stupid google, I would like to use the computer myself, stop opening folders that I did not tell you to! Google in their infinite wisdom want to encourage me to upload to the cloud, so rather than do what I tell it to do, it keeps opening the folders while I am trying to upload to the blog, all interrupting the upload, stupid stupid stupid!  Symmetrical trim on top, looks so much better.  And yes that wall on the left is really crooked.  This is Little Man, he's nice, he came by because he was cold, strange he doesn't like the little coat they put on him....
