For years Arches have been used to hold up the world...

But they did it wrong... And that's not a solid brick on the bottom, it's a fluted block for a chimney. But surprisingly, it was fairly solid, so far from any plumbing which begs the question, why would anyone cut that much out of a beam and 'fix' it like this. Took up the floor in the front room, went well as can be expected, strangely the front room seemed to be pretty level and solid, somehow.... Tomorrow is taking up the kitchen floor, yippie, and then take the flooring outside so I can evaluate what I need to do to get the floor on some level beams. Sadly I found a tin toy, oh that could have been some money, but it was rusty beyond anything resembling a toy, the beer bottles sure weren't worth anything. I think I can re-use some of this floor when I do the front porch, just need to put in some solid subfloor and it should be usable. THe rest should go onto the walls in the bathroom as wainscoting.

Ceiling done as far as needed

Now I can get into that floor, then re-do the plumbing, then I can get the bathroom done, and shower in my own house.  Weird notches are in some of the ceiling joists, which make me think this house is older than it looks, it just used to be parts of another house.  So this house is made from some old barnwood in places.  See, lookie all that room, still need to do that last one over on the end, but it can wait, because I got that post out of the way, I can now get back to the floor, level it then do the plumbing, which shouldn't be too hard, since it's a pottie, two sinks and a bathtub, only two of which will need hot water. THis is the header I installed in the load bearing wall, it connects with the 4x8 beam I installed under the floor, so it's solid.  From jack stud to jack stud it's 7&1/2 feet, so the opening into the bedroom will be a little less than that. Tomorrow I think is a clean up day, then get onto that floor...what mysteries await...stil

Today was a beam day.....

So tired, but a pair of 2x8x20s glued an screwed are under the load bearing wall that's staying. Next to put the mid span(half way 12' across the room) beam under a load, so it will support the floor. Moving that huge beam and getting it under load on top of pavers and cinder blocks over a 20' span, took most out it of me... I'm going to treat myself to Halo 360 PB ice cream, made with coconut milk. This is big, the big beam is in place, with that it can support the angle braces for the cathedral ceiling... Which I discovered I need to do first since I need to take out that double stud holding up the ceiling to do the floor. So 22 hurricane straps later I will be in wide open spaces....

And today a day of rest...

Or at least let the dust settle, went to a 2nd hand place to buy a convex mirror I had seen before, $16, good deal, I think I would have priced it at that if I were selling it a my yardsale. Looks sort of like this... I'm going to put it across from the window in the bathroom, hoping that it will reflect the light around the room into the other mirrors so brighten up the room without having to put more windows in. Back to resting up, then it's workies time tomorrow, pulling up floors an such to level things out.

I hear a cathedral ceiling calling...

Image
With the ceiling joists not up to holding up the roof, I need to put in some new supports, which I can make out of the ceiling beams. Just one at a time, lift replace. But today I removed all of the ceiling boards, then swept and vacuumed, so tired. But it looks awesome, and in a few months, I'll have an open concept tiny home with a fantastic ceiling.

SPent the day cleaning, and cleaning....and taking down walls, walls are meant for borders...

Can't wait to make this cleaning an easier task. But all the crud under this  got swept and raked up and out. Next is putting in those two center beams I need to replace the 'fixing' that others had done, along with fixing bad design. After that will be taking up the floor in the kitchen, so I can get started on seeing what kind of plumbing nightmare I have fix. Before I get to the kitchen floor, have to take out the walls I'll be removing, and the ceiling(which will make it easier to clean up what falls down). So here are pics before an after opening up the walls...True I have a few billion nails to pull, but I'll get on that tomorrow...

Do you even bike....Brah!

Well, had a big trip to HD this morning, now time to rest, for I have to go back and buy more wood. Lets hope they have what I need, didn't seem like the shelves had been stocked right. But got a 20' 2x8" and two 10' 2x6"s, couple of sheets of roofing to use as skirting as the old plywood wasn't long for this world. Plus an 80lb bag of concrete, could have sworn I picked up a 50, but that was just the 50lib bag of mortar for the bricks. Did not expect to have to redo the entire bathroom, from the ground up...but, it will get done.  THis is the mess I have to replace, but first I have to use it to lift the side of the house, then do the center, then I can take out this mess.  Right in front of the toilet is where the sink was venting under the floor, which means the sewer was venting into the house, no wonder these people had health issues.  Do you even bike....Brah...  Had to detach it because the load was lifting the bike.  This is th
