First night in the new house

Image
True, I'm camping on the porch for now, but after I get my container delivered then I can really tear into it, looks like from some of the youtube videos I was brushing up on my pier an beam construction I think there are a few things out of place in the first place, and then when they sagged that made things a little worse. A few pics of the shiplap, and an old box that was under the wall paper.  This is in the front room  This is the hallway, that will be taken out. And this is the wall between the kitchen and the front room that will also be taken out.  I don't see a mark on it, so that's a downer  I think it will clean up though, eventually, it has some muck in it.  What' that above the doorway....?  A way of dealing with neighbors...lolz  My future, got to level things up and replace the bricks that aren't getting the job done.  Note to self, take up the floor first, then level things, so I can hopefully avoid coating myself in spide

I got a house bishes

Yup, got me a big project, tore into some walls today, I've got shiplap everywhere, walls/ceiling, it's gonna be so pretty when I get done, though I guess I need a really good planer, or I'll buy the cheaper one and kill it, thus not being out as much when I need to get a new one. There was faux paneling, on top of wall paper, which was on top of 100 year old boxes, which is nailed to the shiplap. I need a shipping container otherwise I'm going to run out of room to put the save pile. Woot!

Closing still taking a while

What to do while you wait on the mail, and over a holiday weekend. So bought a universal key at Harbor Freight, 24" bolt cutters.  There are a few keys missing on some padlocks at the new abode, cut an replace. Just counted the pennies, I'm 8 short of $1, I think I'll get them before I head back, then I can deposit them in Cha-mu. So those are the things I can have effect on, and I can try to be patient with others. So a lazy sunday before the possibility of getting the keys, went for a run, then walked down to walmart, found a handful of lath screws a couple other screws, and five more pennies, so three more an I have a free $1. It rained today, can't wait to get my rain collection system set up, all that free water.

Friday a new home and I found more silver

Image
Or I think it's a silver locket, that's been smooshed in the grocery store parking lot. But yes, on friday I go to sign the final paperwork, and I will not longer be homeless. Then since I'm paid off until tuesday here at the hotel I'll use that time to demo some stuff at the house, then sleep and shower at the hotel. It's only 678sqft, so it should take too long to demo down to the studs. The layout of the new house reminds me of a Japanese tea house the way the hallway goes down the middle of the house. So I plan on throwing in a couple of headers in the hallway to open up the rooms, the side bedroom I'm thinking of a couple of barn doors for the bedroom side, and leave the living/kitchen side open. Replace the back door, as it's an interior door, nice an solid, but still an interior door.  Beef up the supports in the basement, especially the area under the bathroom, don't want to lay tile unless the floor is solid. THen I can get a shipping c

House Inspection Day...

So today was the inspection on the house that's got my money coming to it. The wiring is a bit of a joke, as the previous owners used multiple extension cords to hook up to outdoor lighting, or to outlets in each room. So the good news is that there's no wiring in the walls that needs to be ripped out, but better yet the electrical service is expandable, perfect for the kitchen appliances an electric water heater or tankless... The bathroom sink, sadly has a wear mark on it, so it might not be salvageable, or something I'll spend time on.  The cast iron claw foot tub, oh that works, looks purdy and will go nicely on a future deck, and I'll sit in it on some hot summer days. There are some really nice old doors, and even outside the door hardware(before they learned how to mortise the hardware inside the door) that might predate even this house. Structure needs some leveling, not as bad as the last place I put an off on to be countered with an insult. But I can

A new town

Went biking to another lumber yard, didn't see much that would get me to travel that far to buy something there, but it was a good store. Checked the new house, that tree in front has to go, but I think it will make a good tree to turn into a house number. Kewl deco building in the old downtown area, and there's a live performance theater, a 'hipster' bar, I won't be drinking there, but might be nice to check out a band or two there.  And it's only .4 mile away from the house.  This is the Brownwood coliseum, no idea what they do there. Remember folks, this is Trump Country... Bought some running shoes, I figure it will be a good way to burn off some tension from not biking everywhere...and a Spiderman hoodie. Time for soup.

Life off the road

Slowly coming to grips with the reality that I'm not on the road anymore, still haven't unpacked the trailer. Weird things get into your head when traveling, like unpacking avoidance, if you don't unpack it, then you don't have to pack it back up, and if it doesn't get unpacked, you won't forget to pack it. I've come to grips with living with 3'x6' to my name, sleeping in a tent, waking up at 5am because that's when the temps dip for two hours, to be at the lowest temp of the day at 7am, then having to pack things up, and get on that road. New town has many things going for it, as does the new house, a place on the edge of town, so not to many neighbors to deal with, no planes flying overhead all day long. The home inspection is on monday, true I can fix a whole lot of things, but it's good to have another set of eyes tell you what's wrong with the place, so I know what besides the bathroom to start on. I'm going with wall to wal
