Girl Wanted, and more demo progress...

Image
Today was a simple one, take down the cardboard with what limited wall paper it had on it and get it to the dumpster. Maybe I'm weird, but I prefer girls to have some experience at being girls, maybe their whole lives... Got that done, and discovered a strange sticker on the wall paper underneath...  THis was the wallpaper under the cardboard.  This window isn't getting replaced, I'm thinking I might make it into a shelf alcove and put the clothes racks on either side.

Snowflake wallpaper got to go!

Ah, now that the tub is out of the bedroom, time for demo, found cloth 'snowflake' wallpaper under the wood paneling, it's got to go, no safe spaces for snowflakes in mah house... Now I just hope that after I piled up the wood paneling outside that someone will help themselves, or maybe someone on marketplace will be interested.  You can make out the snowflakes barely here.  THis is part of some linoleum that's stuck down to the floor, sadly, it's got to go.  Got to mask up before doing demo on this stuff, never know what's in it. ANd this is the pile I hope will disappear, at least so that I don't have to break it down and drag it to the dumpster.

So much work, so tired...

Saturday I spent hours grouting and then cleaning, and cleaning, and oh yeah, cleaning... Still amazed I got that grain the same direction on the wall tiles because honestly I was not paying attention, the 3/8" grout lines really make the tile stand out. Today, Sunday was time to clean up a bit more then move the tub into place, hope I never have to move that sucker again. After moving the tub it started to get a little warm so I had to take several breaks while clearing out the bedroom, it's next, demo, insulate the floor, the walls, and install subfloor.  Tub in place, not sure when I'll crawl under to connect the drain, but soon, hmm, probably at least by next weekend. Look up, it's a shiny metal ceiling....and vent down there on the end.

Tile looks gorgeous!

If I do say so myself, okay, I did it, and I think it looks great. I don't recommend cutting tile the long way, glad I only had to do that once, and I was able to use the left over piece on the window sill. The downside is that now I have to wait three days to grout it, as the mastic says 24 to 72 hours, the floor was a very thin layer of mastic, I had to use the 1/4" notch, and shmear a lot onto the backs of the tiles, they should stick, but I'm going to make sure they stay put. So I'll work on other things, like the ceiling, which will be shiny metal, and I can also work on that back part of the wall and run some former kitchen floor through the planer, that way after I grout the tile I can apply the baseboard, then bring in the tub.

Rainy day today, but I laid out the tile...

And I had exactly as much as I needed for the floor that's wider at the back then it is near the door. I had thought the white would be 'to' white and I would need to cut out some of the 1 inch tiles and replace with blue, naw, just use a dark grout, that should work.  Tomorrow is tile cutting day, so I can cut the tiles that need to be cut.

The tub is fricken heavy.

After finishing the soffet vents on the east side of the house and plugging the old holes, I opened up the bedroom doorway and got the tub into the bathroom. It fits perfectly next to the window, so I could be cool sitting in my tub an looking out the window. So big day victory for me, also finished watching  Paranoid a BBC show, it was pretty good, Indira Varma is just so cute...

Bathroom starting to look like a bathroom,

I don't have much else I can go do on the weekends, so I tend to get more done. This weekend was more work on the bathroom, and a little work on the soffet vents.  Started with one of these, then cut it into thirds, then cut those in half, then cut the bottom of the screen and fold over the metal to cover the screen.  THen drill holes into the corners, and drill bigger holes into the soffet to get more airflow. I think you can see the hole is bigger in this pic.  Screen keeps out the bugs, and the vent louvers catch the wind to circulate the air in the attic. Insulated and leveled the ceiling, or as level as it's going to get.  Then installed the cement board on the floor, taped and mudded the joints/edges. Tomorrow is aligning the tub drain and drilling that hole in the floor, then it's time for the red water-proofing glue, after that dries I can start laying out the tile, cutting out the little while tiles and replacing them with blue one.  I'll sa
