Lookie my new barn

Image
My new wood barn, shed, and place to lock the extra bike. Hurt my ribs finishing the roof, but I'll heal. I turned the old cabinets into subfloor, then put that rug on top of it. The wood will go on each side, and I'll still have a place to lock a bike so I won't have to drag it out of the house. Found some old newspaper in the walls, remember that pong like football game with the little red dashes. The lock is on a hasp that I found in the old shed.

Gee, lets put the black wire in one hole an the white wire in the other....

Since there isn't a hole for the ground wire, who needs that...especially right next to the bathtub... After looking at that electrical nightmare, I pulled the tub aside to reveal three butter knives tucked behind the wallboard, and yes, an electrical outlet hidden behind the tub, like how are you supposed to get to it? It was connected to the wall, but I had to vent some frustrations... There it is, brand new outlet hidden behind the tub, an this is new wire behind the wall, didn't even put any tape over it.

Thought I would share some electrical nightmare...

Now I haven't had enough time to demo the old wiring, but it is disconnected, not sure how Earnest died, but it is a surprise that he lasted as long as he did. These are a few snapshots of a tree of woe, one mistake piled upon another, and another.  Lets start here with the uncovered connection to the old knob an tube, then spliced to the newer wire, no ground.  Which takes us over to the wall, see those two nails to secure the wire to the wall, then another splice, more nails to hold the wire to the wall.  Two splices later see that plug, that goes to another length of wire that leads outside to a light fixture.  And I think this was where the washer an drier went.  See that black wire, it used to go outside to the playhouse. And lets use washer for holding lath to hold our wire to the wall... It is no surprise that Earnest is dead, just a surprise that it took as long as it did. But it's not all bad, I made two planter boxes for the bamboo, hope it will

After several days of work

And sorting, and dumping, the shed I got with the property is now ready for stuff, true not wood stuff, but a whole bunch of my stuff. I'm getting a whole nother shed for the art and bikes. But first I have to go get my stuff from Abilene tomorrow, then hopefully the UPS guy can come by and pick up the Little Giant that I ordered, it arrived bent and with a broken adjustment button, so worthless. But I'll be done with moving for quite a while.

Just like an episode of American Pickers....

As I've been cleaning out the old shed on the property, I've been finding little things here and there, and today I found some 'rusty gold', two varmint traps, but sadly I did find a huge spider, when they get that big, time to kill em. Other than that, the clean up is going well, power is secure, as in I've turned off the breakers to inside the house, so I can demo with no worries, the one outlet outside of the house is just one outlet, nothing hiding beyond it, which with this house is a bit of worry. But I'll demo all of the old, and start new, so there will be no worries.

DO you even bike Brah!

Had to get my that accessory of accessories, a burn barrel, it would take forever to get that stuff into a trash can. Best to burn it and dump it into the hole, also use some of it to bug proof the storage shed, I think there's a few ants, not many but a few. Starting to get warm, so can't wait to get the house insulated so I'm protected from the warm.

Digging for treasures

Image
Cleaning out the storage shed so I'll have a start on where to put stuff, as I ordered another one a little bigger than the one I have, so I'll have a place to put my tools, and bike parts. Found some tools, hand planer, B&D angle grinder, shovel, bow & arrows, frog killing fork . Some mirrors, but mainly it was a purge of stuff headed to the burn barrel. And another pile headed to goodwill. I get my burn barrel tomorrow, and if I'm feeling froggy I might get the rototiller over at the Tractor Supply store. Then I can dig up the shallow bamboo that's sprouting up.

Back to Texas...

Even after just a couple of days back, I missed this place, people are nicer here, and they don't steal your stuff, while it's in your hand. But anywho, looks like the container hunt is going to take a while, so the burn barrel hunt is going to be higher on the list. Got rid of the ugly chair and both of the ceiling fans, so they won't be smacking me in the head.  I have my own fixtures anyway, I like the more. So with some things on hold, found a gym to join, that's within walking distance, so I have a place to shower while I renovate the house, and since I'm a vet, it was cheaper. Bad news, it's been a while since I last did an upper body workout, so ouchy.... Nice girl at the Mcdonalds bought me a drink and an extra cheeseburger, I just bought something so I could use their wifi. Took pics of the park across the street, started on the south end, then walked north...then took a pic of my house on the walk back.
